My heater will not go on. It is receiving power and is attempting to start however it is making a very rapid ticking sound.
With the symptom given, it's possible that the pilot may need to be cleaned and /or the pilot is not getting gas to it. Other than this, it would be best to have a technician check out the heater.
My heater is constantly cycling on and off. What should I do?
First, turn it off. Do not continue to use it, as it is not burning properly. Start by cleaning your filter and making sure your thermostat is turned all the way up. If the heater is still cycling after doing these things, call the builder or dealer who installed it and arrange for a technician to look at it. If your heater has been installed within the past year, it should be under warranty.
How do I change my heater from natural gas to propane gas?
Converting your heater from natural gas to propane requires the change out of the burner tray assembly and the electronic control module. We do not recommend that this be done in the field for the most part. If the conversion must be done on site, we always recommend that a qualified field repair technician perform the necessary work to ensure proper performance and operating safety.
I just installed a gas heater and I am concerned that it might not be big enough to heat my pool effectively. It seems to take about 5 hours to bring the temperature up about 3 degrees.
The time it has taken for you to heat your pool 3 degrees is correct. The heater is working fine. We would suggest you cover your pool. This will save gas and money, as well decrease the time needed to raise your water temperature.
Why is the power element on my gas heater corroded?
There are a couple of reasons this may have happened. It may be either chemical corrosion, due to improper water chemistry, or caused by excessive water velocity, which results in etching of the metal of the power element. It may even be a combination of the two. First of all, make sure your pool's water is at the proper pH (between 7.4 and 7.6) and your pump is operating at the proper flow rate for your heater (consult your heater specs). If the problem persists, contact a pool professional.
I have a 3-year old gas-powered pool heater. The first two years, I left the "dial" at 10:30 position to keep the pool at 82 degrees. This year, to keep it at 82 I have to turn it up to 2:30...Is this normal wear and tear and nothing to worry about, or the beginning of the end for the thermostat?
It sounds like your thermostat needs to be cleaned and/or the sensor and capillary should be examined.
My gas heater has stopped firing. I noticed that the fuse was burned. Is there a fix for this?
The wind may have caused the problem. If so, the heater probably needs to have an outdoor stack installed. The thermal fuse is located where it is to stop the flame from coming out the front of the heater and damaging the electronics. It sounds like it did its job. You can obtain a replacement thermal fuse at most pool stores.
What is the thermal efficiency of the MINIMAX* plus swimming pool heater?
The thermal efficiency of the MINIMAX plus swimming pool heater is 82%.
